Málaga is placed in the banks of the Mediterranean.
It was founded by the
Phoenicians at the end of the 5th century B.C. and later occupied by
the Carthaginians, Romans and Arabs. Nowadays it is a modern city owning
an important port, airport and University.
It is the capital of 'la Costa del Sol' and
one of the most visited places in
the country since the seventies. Not for nothing is its climate one of
the warmest
and loveliest in the Iberian Peninsula enjoying so many sunny days a year
that it
would be really odd if there is a cloudy day during your visit.
Although Málaga is known by million tourist
as a holiday place because of its Mediterranean
climate, its lovely beaches and the warm character of its people we can
not forget that
the city owns many beautiful monuments such as the Cathedral (17th century)
and countless
churches like la Victoria church (15th century).
We can admire the Alcazaba as well, an arab
monument built in the 11th century and the Roman
Theatre placed next to that monument. It is also very interesting Gibralfaro
Castle (11th century)
which because of being placed at the top of Málaga offers lovely views
of the bullring,
the Town Hall and the port.
But perhaps the internationally famous Picasso
museum, dedicated to the well-known painter is
the most important thing Málaga can offer the visitor.
Málaga is a very nice and friendly city with
countless gardens and amusements places. Its city
centre has a great variety of restaurants where the visitor can taste
the Spanish tapas, apart
from many pubs where you can enjoy the nights.
If you come to Málaga you should never refuse to taste the typical fried
fish and the delicious raisin wine.
In Málaga there are well-known villages on
the coast such as Benalmádena,
Torremolinos, Fuengirola, apart from inland villages like Ronda and
Antequera whose beauty attracts thousands visitors every year.
Granada only at 90 minutes from Málaga, Córdoba
and Sevilla, at 2 hours
are lovely cities owning gorgeous arab monuments placed really close
to Málaga which allows the tourist to visit them.
